  Bagan and the Environs

Bagan is one of the famous Buddhist archeological sites in the world where still 2,217 ancient pagodas - according to the 1978 survey of the archeologist from Myanmar built between 11th and 13th century are standing and identifiable in the 16 sq mile tract along the east of the Ayeyarwady river.

Day trip to Mt Popa (1,520 meters) that lies 50 km from Bagan.

Four days three nights hiking and trekking trip to Mt. Nat Ma (or Mount Victoria) in Chin hill that is 3,054 meters high and the third highest mountain in Myanmar.

Main attraction:

Bagan: Nyaung Oo market; observe different architectural style of the pagodas such as; Shwe Zigon pagoda (the prototype of the bell shaped pagoda); Gu Byauk Kyi temple(where the fine frescoes depicting the Zatakas are painted in the interior walls) at Wet Kyi Inn; and the elegant Htilo Minlo Temple (fragments of the original fine plaster carvings and the glazed sandstones decoration have survived outside).

Tharaba Gate (the main gate of the east wall and the only structure left of the old Bagan city); Ananda temple (an architectural masterpiece of the Bagan era); Ananda Oak Kyaung (one of the few surviving brick monasteries from the early Bagan period);and That Byin Nyu (its monumental size and verticality - the highest in Bagan, rising to 61 meter- make it a classic example of mid Bagan era); and Dhammayangyi (massive looking pagoda and brickwork without mortar).

Phayar Thonzu pagoda (three distinct temple joined together; beautifully painted and well preserved frescoes of Mahayanist and Tantric character; and   Dhammayangyi (unusual and rather complex design of the stupa rising from five-sided base) and the lacquer ware workshops; Enjoy sunset from top of Shwe Sandaw pagoda; or North Guni pagoda or Pyat Thada pagoda or while cruising in the Ayeyarwady river.

Popa: Approx. 1.5 hours drive from Bagan. Mt Popa captures the moistures from the cloud and thus the resulting rainfall makes the surrounding plateau green and fertile. The top of the rocky crag nearby is accessible via the covered stairways. The half an hour climb will let the tourist enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding plateau and the Nats (Spirits) shrines on top of the crag.

Mt. Nat Ma
: Eco tour for bird watching and orchid tree observing tour. Hiking 8 km from the old Kan Pet Let city or / driving 16 km by car from Kanpetlet city and hiking another 8 km to the peak of Mt. Nat Ma.
